not looking like chicks anymore!

We went to coastal this week to pick up some chick stuff, and couldn't help but be surprised at how tiny the chicks are!  It's hard to believe that ours were that small just a month ago!

Well, they were cramped in their tiny box with the water and food dish taking up much of the room.  So, we decided to make a bigger brooding "box" for the rest of their time remaining in the house.  This is our old dining room table flipped upside down with wire around it (the table was set to go anyway, and I was happy for an excuse to send it packin' sooner :-)  They love their space!  It has been very messy though with no sides to hold in all that bedding.  Since we've taken these pictures I've had to put some paper at the front to keep it under control a bit better.  I also have to sweep 50 times a day.  But, that's okay because they'll move outside soon, and they're cute.  I have also decided to try newspaper tonight and see how that goes.  I don't know if newspaper will be as sanitary though.

Look how big they are getting.  Starting to look more like hens, and less like chicks...

Building a coop...Michele started building the coop today!  He made good progress.  He had a hard time deciding what design he wanted to do, probably because I wasn't much help in that department.P4210887  He decided on a "barn" style roof, and it's going to painted red.  I'm excited.  I think it's going to be pretty cute.  He started with framing the roof.P4210884  Here is an almost completed back panel of the coop.  The front panel will look very similar, but have a door.  I just pray that Michele's back holds up!  He's already hurtin', sigh!  P4210885

He finished the front panel today minus the door, but I didn't get a picture of it.  That's as far as he got today.  He had to make another run to lowe's tonight for more supplies.  We may have a coop up and running by next weekend hopefully!  It still has a long way to go though.
