Settling into fall

We have a whole long list of things we want to do this fall, and making candy/caramel apples was one of them.  The kids had a good time, and learned how sticky caramel can really be.

First we started out with some shiny red apples:
And some fun halloween marshmallows on sticks (this was mostly for Aaron so he would have something to do).  He put one marshmallow on each stick:

We melted some ooey gooey caramel:
And some delicious chocolate chips:

We added a bowl of fall colored m&m's:
Then we dipped and dipped and dipped.  Aaron dipped his marshmallows in the chocolate:
April worked on dipping the apples in the caramel:
Finally, we ended up with some tasty treats!  Yes, they don't look pretty, and by the way don't use wax paper like the directions on the back of the bag of caramels says.  It doesn't work.  Next time I think we'll have a better solution, but they were still pretty yummy.
This turned out to be pretty yummy too.  I ate way too many of these chocolate marshmallows!

Our fall to do list:
  • Eat donuts on a string
  • Make a halloween/fall treat
  • Puffy tissue candy corn craft
  • Make a monster meter
  • Make halloween count down
  • Make owl cookies (almost unschoolers)
  • Balloon pumpkin patch game (orange balloons tied together with green string)
  • Watch "It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown"
  • Make a squirrel craft
  • Make hot chocolate and enjoy it
  • Do a monster craft
  • Celebrate Mom's birthday
  • Rake leaves
  • Bob for Apples
  • Buy and watch Toy story 3
  • Make paper bag owls
  • Have a costume parade
  • Make a fall craft
  • Make pumpkin cookies
  • Carve pumpkins
  • Play halloween scavenger hunt
  • Visit the halloween trail
  • Go play in the Fall weather
  • Jump in a pile of leaves
  • Go to the pumpkin patch
  • Make a scarecrow craft
  • Make candy apples
  • Take a fall nature walk
Each of these activities is written on a leaf that is colored and cut out of paper so we can pick a leaf when we're ready for an activity.  As soon as the leaves are on the tree that we made I'll put up a picture
