I think this was one of my favorite things we have done this summer. The kids (and I) set up a lemonade stand. They made all kinds of signs, and did some shouting as the cars went by. Two people stopped, they made $3, and only planned on charging 10 cents. The kids had a blast. At first we had it in front of our house but decided to move it down to the corner by the busier street.
I think the kids drank more lemonade than they were supposed to, yummy! What else do you do while waiting for the customers, right?
Aaron loves his little umbrellas.
I love these signs they made. They scootered up and down the sidewalk shouting "Ice cold lemonade!" I don't think we annoyed the neighbors too much.
Are they going to stop? Maybe?....
...okay, they didn't stop, back to work!
I love summer.

Our homeschool weekly wrap-up #1
We had a pretty good week this week for homeschool. We are doing a pretty laid back schedule this summer, at most 1-2 hours of school each day if we don't have something that takes us out and about. I've also managed to get our workboxes back up and running, and our school area has finally been organized and completed which makes it all so much easier. Our school room is now in the dining room, and we work primarily at the dining room table now. It's so much easier for me to work with everybody. I'm excited for our new set up and will share pictures soon! It looks great! I'll do a post about that soon.
Anyway, on to our week...
Tot school
Aric really loves anything cars, so I found this Tow Mater paper craft at family fun. It's pretty sad looking. I didn't really take the time to do it right, just kinda threw it together. He liked building it with me though. After I got the body together that was it. Didn't even put the tow hitch on or anything. It was fun for our tot school time though. Aric will sit still for these kinds of things. (And yes, I ended up hot gluing it)
These nuts and bolts were a big hit for tot school this week. I loved how the bolts were a certain shape and you had to match it up to the nuts. He had fun matching the colors and shapes, and we even did a few patterns. These were from the Target dollar spot.
I love how in this picture he is matching the shapes up. He picked these nuts and bolts out several times during tot school to play.
Here is one of the patterns he made.
Before 5 in a row
We rowed the book, Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear? For those of you who aren't familiar with Five in a row, I'll explain a little. Five in a row is a study of a story for 5 days, usually over the course of 1 week. You read the story every day and do activities that revolve around the book. It's a great program, and I'm glad I picked Before 5 in a row because these books are a little easier so that both the 3 and 5 year old can participate. For example one activity was to have the child hold an american flag while reading the story for that day, and finding all the pictures throughout the book that looked like a flag or had red white and blue. My boys loved doing this. I put the book and 2 small American flags on sticks into the workbox for Aaron, because I was planning on having both boys participate. We discovered a lot of red white and blue themes throughout the book.
I also printed up the lap book from homeschool share for Jesse Bear. We didn't finish it all this week, so pictures of that will come soon. But we did have a bear dress up morning. I let them dig through a box of scraps of fabric and let them pick out their bears clothes. Aric also really loves reading Goldilocks and the 3 bears out of his Preschool (needs to know) book, so he was really excited to make a bear for that too. On the left is Aaron's bear, and on the right is Aric's bear (Aric even put shoes on his).
Nature study
I am trying to get us back into a regular nature study again. It really is one of our favorite things to do. I'm also very excited about this board. It's a part of our new school dining room decor. I have wanted a better way to display all the kids school work and this is one of the new things I did. The pages displayed here are the things the kids observed during our star gazing night. On the left is Aaron's page. He is really into drawing stars since I taught him the "easy" way to draw a star by connecting lines. He also drew the moon. In the middle is Aric's page. He tried drawing the moon, and the stars as best as a little 3 year old can. So cute! Then there is April's. Of course her I see box she drew her own horse constellation.
Here they are out stargazing. They got to stay up late, and we put our half tent up and laid the blankets out. Aaron even fell asleep out there!
Mom's favorites
Aric got this race track for his birthday. It's like a mini pinewood derby track, so fun! He loves it and wanted to get it out several times this week. The whole track is a very smart design. And, yes, that is a very spotted dirty carpet. It needs to be cleaned or replaced. I am dreaming of laminate flooring.
April is doing a download and go unit study on horses so I got her this horse puzzle to work on one day. Not to mention the fact that she absolutely loves horses.
Target dollar spot is my favorite. Here is another fun toy I picked up for fun in the workboxes/tot trays. They stick together. Aaron likes these.

Some other things we did this week were:
- Visiting with Aunt Michelle (Hubby's sister) and her 3 boys. The kids always love to see their cousins.
- Seeing Grandma and Grandpa too.
- Going to the fountains
- Going to Borders bookstore to see what kind of store closing deals we could find (not very much discount yet). I was surprised at how many people were buying so much. We ended up bringing home 2 small lego sets, a birthday present, and some books on tape.
- We had a lemonade stand. The kids worked real hard on making the signs, and figuring out how to best get people's attention. But, mostly just for fun. They made 3 dollars from 2 customers :-)
- We went out to the lake and let the kids jump in. They had a blast.

Red Raspberry muffins
The kids really wanted to pick some berries, so we went to pick while raspberries were good. We came home with 3 bowls of raspberries, and I didn't know what else to do with them. They aren't my family's favorite berry, but it was fun to pick them anyway. The kids sure liked them fresh. I do like to try new things so I found a few new recipes to use with the raspberries. I really liked this one for raspberry muffins, especially the crumbled topping. I found it at cooks.com. The kids didn't really care for it (they don't care for anything cooked with fruit), but Hubby and I thought they were pretty good. He did say though that these muffins would be perfect without the raspberries (not his favorite berry). I guess I'll try a different berry for him next time, ha, ha.
Enjoy!

popsicles
Our popsicle family
(This was a size sorting activity. It just happened to have the exact same # of popsicles as we have people in our family. We had fun putting our family in order from biggest to smallest :-)

Popsicle spelling
Popsicle coloring
P is for popsicle
We did the popsicle unit from 2 teaching mommies and had some fun. We didn't do much more than the printables, but I wish I had. We could have made these homemade popsicles. We could have made this popsicle colors craft. And, this popsicle bunting looks fun too. Oh well, maybe next time.

Our homeschool plans and curriculum 2011-2012
It has been helpful for me over the last 4 years to see what others have for their curriculum each year, so I'm excited to share what we have planned for this year. I am very excited, the kids are excited, and we've already enjoyed exploring a little from all of the curriculum choices for this year.
Almost all of our curriculum comes from Timberdoodle co. I'm happy to say that we are very pleased with most everything. I liked all their choices for the complete 5th and Kinder curriculums, so that's what we got! A lot of new stuff that we've never had before, some fun things, and a lot of variety. I ordered everything before we left for our 4th of July camping trip so when we came home the boxes were waiting for us, and the kids were so thrilled. I love that they think a box of school curriculum is so fun to open. After we opened them they all just dove right in, flipping through the pages, and looking at all the things they are going to learn this year. Then I grouped all their stuff in a big box, and they like to look through their boxes every once in a while. I should also note that this is the first time I've ever purchased an entire curriculum all at once. Usually I just piece it together, so getting these boxes was a big deal this year. So fun! I felt I really needed more to pull from this year, especially for April since she's in 5th grade. And, this is my first round teaching a Kindergardener to read, so I really wanted a lot of resources for Aaron too. I also bought a few new things for Aric's preschool too, but not a lot. He'll mostly be using the tot school toys and resources we already have
April's 5th grade curriculum:(Most of April's curriculum is part of the 5th grade timberdoodle complete curriculum)
Aaron's Kindergarten curriculum: (most of his curriculum comes from the timberdoodle core curriculum for homeschool, I won't link each individual book unless it didn't come from the curriculum package)
Aric's preschool curriculum:
So, there are our books for the year. I don't know how much of each book we'll get through. Some things will be done daily (math, reading, writing), others will be every other day, and the rest when we can. Also, I want to add that this looks like a lot, but this is for the whole school year to keep us busy. There will be some books we won't even start until halfway through.

Whatever his brother is working on he'll do too
Here are the new things I bought for Aric. It doesn't look like much, but most of his "school" will be crafts, printables, and toys. Exactly what it should be for his age, and the biggest reason I do so much for him is because he loves doing school with us. In a lot of ways he's at the same level as his older brother.

April's new blog
Miss April has started her own new blog featuring her passion for all things horses and anything she wants to share in her little girl world. She's very excited about it and has already wrote a post. Her blog is called April's horse tracks. We may eventually make this blog private, but if you'd like to read about her first horse lesson today stop by!
Edited: She didn't like April's horse tracks, so it's back to Horse tracks.

Tot school: letter C
Aric is currently 35 months old
This all happened several weeks ago. We are now on letter E this week, so I really need to catch up on the tot school posts! I don't think I got many pictures this week, but we did do a lot.
He did his Highway letters Cc. He decided to line them all up on the floor this time. He really loves doing these letters every week.
This was a tot tray activity. He sorted the colored paper clips and then we put tried to put them on the same foam color sheet. He couldn't clip them on very well. We'll have to try this one again later when he can get the paper clips to work and it doesn't frustrate him.
Here he is doing some tot school printables. He is on the letter C, and the theme for the week was cats. He lined up the cats, numbers, and letters in order while eating his breakfast!
To show more tot school printables in the picture below, here is his "cat" shape train on the left, and the numbers on top. The sight words are for Aaron.
We picked up some glow in the dark magnet letters at Safeway, so Aric had fun playing with those for a while. They glow pretty good if you shine a flashlight or something on them first.
This is Aric's cat craft.
Another tot try activity, sorting glow in the dark bugs from the bug cage.
This is a new tot tray activity idea I had. This kid loves to play trains, so I thought if I put only certain pieces on the tray for him to make a specific shape out of he could get better at building trains AND practice his shapes too. This tray was a big hit! He wanted to build it over and over again. This particular set was for a circle.
I want to put a picture on the tray also, so he knows what shape to build it in. I didn't have the picture yet, so I just told him.
And, some of the best parts of tot school are just plain old playing...he loves his cars!
